Offered Monday-Friday, 9:00 - 1:00 p.m. December, January, and February only For the 2008-2009 school year our outreach programs will be offered to school groups free of charge. The programs complement the Georgia science and social studies GPS and the North American Association for Environmental Education Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education. The GPS relevant to each program is linked below. Our instructors will come to your classroom to conduct 1 hour hands-on activities. The activities closely follow the curriculum of our regular field trips. Students may be engaged through games, craftmaking, picture making, or model building. Program descriptions are listed below. We provide all materials. You must schedule at least 3 weeks in advance. Kindergarten Geology Science GPS: SKCS1(a), SKCS4(b,c), SKE2(a,c) Participate in a weathering story and create a picture of rock sizes. One of our instructors for each classroom.
First Grade Animals Science GPS: S1CS7(a,b), S1L1(b,d) Students get close to and learn about animals that live on Stone Mountain. One of our instructors for each classroom.
Second Grade Stone Mountain Animal Life Cycles Science GPS:S2CS1(a), S2CS4(b,c), S2CS5(a), S2L1(a) Students are introduced to the life cycles of common animals living at Stone Mountain. One of our instructors for each classroom.
Third Grade Stone Mountain Geology Science GPS: S3CS1(a,c), S3E1(a,b,d) Learn about rocks and minerals and make your own piece of granite. One of our instructors per classroom.
Fourth Grade Exploring Wetlands Science GPS: S4CS8, S4L1, S4L2(a,b) Students learn about the special adaptations of beaver and create a wetland food chain. Our instructors rotate to each classroom.
Fifth Grade Stone Mountain Geology Science GPS: S5CS8, S5E1 Learn how rocks weather and erode and create a model of Stone Mountain. One of our instructors for each classroom. |
